Comer Process The Comer School Development Program is a comprehensive, process driven approach to school transformation. Dr. James Comer of the Yale Child Study Center developed it. The program recognized that the purpose of schooling is to advance the social, emotional, and academic growth and development of students. Its guiding principles stress collaboration, consensus, and communication with a no-fault approach to problem solving in four major areas: academic, social, staff development, and public relations. The Comer Process enables all members of the Scott community to be involved in the decision-making process. All staff members have the opportunity to serve as members of teams to do "what's best for kids." Scott works to accomplish these goals with help from the School Development Program which contains the following three structures: SPMT
The School Planning and
Management Team is comprised of representatives
of the school community. This team establishes policy guidelines for
school
programs, repsonds to school concerns and opportunities, carries out
planning
of school events, promotes effective resource utilization, works
closely
with the PTO to plan the annual school calendar and monitors and
evaluates
all school programs. The SPMT includes parents, teachers, classified
staff,
certified staff, community representatives, the principal and the
assistant
principal.
SIT The Student Improvement Team includes the counselor, social worker, psychologist, school nurse, speech pathologist, reading teachers, classroom teachers, principal, assistant principal and other professional support staff. This team addresses schoolwide issues and manages individual student cases. PAWS The new Parent-Teacher program at Scott is now called PAWS - Panthers Actively Working for Scott. PAWS is dedicated to supporting activities which benefit students through the joint efforts of parents and school staff. Parent involvement is welcomed and encouraged. Check the school calendar for dates and times of meetings. Contact the main office at 235-7480 for more information. Title I Scott is a Title I school-wide project due to the high number of students who qualify for services on the basis of socio-economic indicators. Our program goals include:
Volunteer Programs Parent participation is a vital part of our school program. Each time a parent volunteer assumes a task, the academic world of Scott students is enlarged because someone exhibited an interest in what is happening at the school. No special skills are necessary. If you have a desire to be involved, you can BE A VOLUNTEER. Contact your child's teacher or the school office if you would like to be a part of the exciting things happening at Scott this year. Contact the main office at 235-7480 to leave them a message. |
