PRIDE
Let us 'snag' you with our fun program

History

This is the fourth year for the Scott After School Program.  The 21st Century After School Grant has ended and we are in our first year of trying to make it on our own.  The grant allowed children a chance to extend the school day in a fun and learning rich environment, different from the regular classroom atmosphere.  We will continue with the same goals and ideas the grant started us with.  The name of our Scott program is PRIDE, Panthers Reinforced In Different Experiences.  We are excited that your child will be a part of PRIDE.

Nikki Meier is in her second year as site facilitator, after teaching Kindergarten for five years at Scott.  She welcomes your comments and suggestions.  If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact Nikki at 224-4416 between 2pm and 6pm or you can leave a message

Goals of PRIDE

  • Strengthen academic skills

  • Build healthy relationships

  • Widen students’ horizons through cultural/recreational activities

  • Support parent involvement

Enrollment

An enrollment form and Participation Consent Form must be completed and on file before your child can attend PRIDE.  Our enrollment is limited to a low student/teacher ratio, so don’t miss out by waiting.  Your child will excel in school and life by being involved with PRIDE.

PRIDE Hours and Fees

PRIDE is in effect from 3:30-6:00 pm, Monday through Friday when school is in session.  We will meet in the multipurpose room.  We will start on August 30.  PRIDE ends at 6:00 pm sharp!

PRIDE costs $40 a month for one child and $30 a month for additional children in the same family.  That is approximately $2 a day.  Most childcare options in Topeka cost over $100 a month per child.  Payment can be made during the month in the office.  You can send payment with your child to school or pay in the office.  PRIDE personnel cannot accept your payment.   Payment must be made before your child can attend PRIDE.  Please communicate with the site facilitator if you are having struggles financially.  We want your children in PRIDE and we are willing to work with you, if you let us know.

If your child is NOT picked up by 6:00 pm you will be charged $1 for every minute past 6:00.  After 3 different occasions of being picked up after 6:00 pm, your child will be dropped from PRIDE.

Attendance

Every child is encouraged to attend daily.  We believe continual attendance in PRIDE will directly affect your child’s academic progress.  If a child is enrolled in PRIDE we would like them to attend as much as possible of the afternoon.  This will give your child the full benefit of PRIDE.

Guidance and Discipline

Scott’s discipline procedures will apply to PRIDE.  PRIDE participates will be expected to behave anywhere the group might be.  A child may be permanently removed from PRIDE if behaviors continue to be a danger to others.

It is a privilege to be a part of PRIDE, not a right!

Other Policies and Procedures

  •      A parent or authorized person must sign the child out daily.
  • A child will be released only to individuals listed on the enrollment form.  ID may be checked.
  • In case of illness or an emergency, the parents or the other contact person will be notified and expected to pick the child up immediately.

Parent Involvement

PRIDE welcomes parent involvement!  We want your input and expertise.  If you have any resources or knowledge of a particular area, please let Nikki Meier know.
