Academic Program


Scott Magnet can support up to 645 students in grades Pre-K-5. Students who attend Scott Magnet live in the surrounding community, as well as other areas of Topeka. Scott's building plan includes many features that emphasize the technology theme of the school. Some of the features are:
  • A networked computer system with Internet access
  • Video access through networked monitors in all classroom and other instructional areas
  • Broadcast studio with video editing capabilities
  • A computerized checkout system
  • A central technology control room with a video retrieval system, scroll TV, and digital camera equipment
  • Accelerated Reader Program
With the support of technology, other primary learning areas at Scott enhance student learning for the 21st Century.
Classrooms are designed to support learning through the use of technology. Each classroom has 1 computer for every 2 students. Classrooms are arranged in clusters with six classrooms in each cluster. Common learning areas or pods are central to each cluster of classrooms.
Music Rooms are located next to each other with one classroom which can serve as a stage for music performances. Classrooms contain electronic keyboards as well as midi software for students to learn notes as well as compose music.
Gymnasium consists of a full-sized basketball court which can accommodate two full-time physical education teachers and lots of P.E. equipment.
